SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for Phillip Jerome Beasley, 46, who died Oct. 15, 2008, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home in Hartsville with the Rev. Rick Hartsoe officiating.
Mr. Beasley was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Samuel J. Beasley and Cora Lee Dixon Beasley.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Dickson Beasley of Society Hill; daughter, Heather Nicole Beasley of Spartanburg; sisters: Tammy (Tony) Boatwright of Hartsville, Kimberly (Buddy) Dority of Timmonsville and Brandy (Bryan) Brazell of Cassatt; and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Lackey, widow of Brent Lackey, died Thursday, Oct. 16. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Betty Bullard Nordquist and the late William Ancil Gilbert.
Surviving are her son, Jay Gary Myers of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Autumn Myers of Atlanta, Ga., Dedra and Alan Wiggins of Florence, Carmen and Ronnie Wiggins of Florence; sister and brother-in-law, Joy and David Watford of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Debbie Gilbert of Hartsville; and grandchildren, Michael Skinner, Matthew Brown and Kayleigh Brown. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Brian Gilbert.

Mr. Gray died Thursday, Oct. 9. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Dorothy Folsom Gray and the late Hardy N. Gray. He was a member of Elim United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his mother, of Darlington; sister, Paulette Skinner of Hartsville; nieces, Tammie Moore of Hartsville, Ellen Blackwell of Hartsville; nephew and spouse, Fred and Amy Skinner of Hartsville, Danny King of Myrtle Beach; seven great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nieces and nephews; step-nephew, Tommy Skinner; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Faye Gray Lloyd.

Funeral services for James Pooler Sr. were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at St. John United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amari Hooker and Elder Leroy Williamson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Pooler, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 16, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. He was the loving son of the late Augusta and Laura Lucas Pooler. He received his formal education in the public schools of the area. He was raised in a large family where hard work, clean living and devotion to duty were stressed.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his savior and became a life long member at St. John United Methodist Church. He was a hard worker. He provided for his family. He was employed for more than 40 years with Columbia Seafood. He loved people and talked to everyone and anyone while he sold fish and vegetables. He was always encouraging everyone to eat healthy.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He inspired and motivated many with his simple common sense approach to life. He knew how to make a living and was willing to show others how to make things work to their advantage.
He was married to the late Estell Bell Pooler. After the passing of his first wife, he was united to Mrs. Fannie Mae Williams Pooler. He was a blessed man because he was loved and appreciated by his loyal and devoted mate.
Surviving to share his loving memories are his wife, Fannie Mae Williams Pooler of the home; his children, Shirley (Billy) Hough of Florence, Renata (Leroy) Williamson, Laura (Ra’Shime Phillips) Pooler, James Pooler Jr., Ronald Pooler, all of Hartsville; an adopted son, Bill Peterson of Hartsville; grandchildren, Sherod (Yoko) Pooler of Japan, Natasha (Lanzel) Davis of Anderson, Natoya Pooler, Myesha Huggins, RaMesha Phillips, all of Hartsville; great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Dashawn Pooler of Japan; his siblings, Annette Waiters, Hermena (Boy) Bell, both of Hartsville, and Shelton Pooler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and
other close relatives and friends.
Those preceding him in death were Annie Lee McDaniel, Son Pooler, Alice Wilkerson, Lila Mae Pooler, Willie Pooler, C.W. Pooler, Charles Pooler, Alphonso Pooler, Robert Pooler and Hasti Pooler.
