The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a public forum Wednesday to discuss the November 4th Penny Tax vote in Horry County.

The forum will take place at the Myrtle Beach Elementary School from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.

According to the Chamber, the forum will educate Horry County voters on the local option penny sales tax question that will appear on the November ballot.

If passed, the penny sales tax would generate an estimated $1 billion or more over a 15-year period for Horry County Schools, Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Representatives from the educational institutions will be available at the forum to explain the referendum and answer questions.

The local option penny sales tax would go into effect in March 2009 and would be collected for 15 years.

Debt service millage is expected to be reduced to 24 mills by fall 2009.

The Horry County School Board intends to reduce debt service to 10 mills by fall 2010.
