Anthony Bacchuss has joined Lake City Police Department as a corporal, bringing nearly 10 years of ex-perience in law enforcement to the job.
Since starting the position on Sept. 26, Bacchuss said he has been learning the streets and getting to know residents.
“I think he will be an asset to the police department and brings years of experience and knowledge to the job” said Lake City Police Chief Billy Brown.
Bacchuss said he came to Lake City because it’s not a big area and he feels it will afford him the opportunity to get know everyone who lives in the community and the surrounding areas. He also said he met Brown at an underage drinking seminar in Florida and found him to be a very good leader and wanted to come work with him.
Bacchuss graduated from Brittons Neck High School in 1986 and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Acad-emy on May 14, 1998. In addition, Bacchuss served 10 years in the Navy.
He is a native of Marion County and said he became a police officer because he truly enjoys helping others. One of his most memorable experiences as a police officer was in 2000, when he arrested a man who was aired on the television series, American’s Most Wanted. Bacchuss said the man was wanted out of Delaware for a double homicide. He said he arrested the man for a traffic violation and learned later that he captured a fugitive.
Bacchuss worked as a police officer in North Charleston for about one year, the City of Marion for five years and Marion County for four years.
In his spare time, he enjoys riding his motorcycle and working out at the gym and describes himself as quiet, easy-going and understanding.
He thoroughly enjoys patrolling the streets and doesn’t have any plans of moving into an administrative position in law enforcement. “I’m a foot soldier,” Bacchuss said explaining he doesn’t like sitting at a desk and has to keep moving while on the job.
Bacchuss, who is single, is the father of a 14 year-old son, a 13 year-old daughter and a 19 year-old daughter. He said he plans to stay on the Lake City Police force until he retires and will officially move to the area by Thanksgiving.
