The Horry County Police Department gathered with family and friends of one of their own to remember him in an extra-special way Thursday morning.
Sergeant Henry Odell Stalvey was killed when a drunk driver hit him head-on while he was on patrol on September 12, 1986.
Red Bluff Road is now named the Sgt. Henry Stalvey Memorial Road. It runs right through the area where the Stalvey family calls home.
During the ceremony at Red Bluff Crossroads, which is the intersection of Red Bluff Road. and Highway 905, dignitaries and family spoke to his memory.
"(Police service) was the most precious thing in his life, other than his children," said Stalvey's sister, Peggy McDowell. "He just loved to be a county policeman, and he was very dedicated. It is really wonderful to know the county would dedicate the road to our brother.""
