Local business leaders discuss economy

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It’s a big talker just about everywhere you go—the economy.

On Thursday, several hundred people attended the Economic Outlook Luncheon and Pee Dee Show Biz Business Expo at the Florence Civic Center.

That’s where News13 caught up with several business leaders to get their personal opinions on the economy.

Tim Norwood owns and operates several restaurants around Florence.

He said now until Christmas is generally the best time of the year for the restaurants. This season, though, they’re seeing a bit of a slump.

“We feel like the economy is hurting us a little bit. People are not eating out as much. They are grocery shopping more and cooking in,” said Norwood.

Not everyone, though, is seeing the same effects.

Dennis Hempstead is president of a local janitorial company. He said the business is having a great year because many companies facing hard times are outsourcing their needs to his company.

Those having a not-so-great-year, though, said they’re hoping the economy soon gets better.
