Latta police officer fired after complaint

LATTA -- An officer was fired from the Latta Police Department Thursday after the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint against him, Latta Police Chief Bobby Powers said.

Fourty-three year-old Chris Taylor was suspended Wednesday following an incident that happened earlier that day, Powers said.

Dillon County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Sheriff Douglas Pernell said the sheriff’s office initially handled the investigation of the incident, but turned it over to the State Law Enforcement Division.

SLED public information officer Kathryn Richardson confirmed the agency was asked to look into allegations made against a Latta police officer.

Powers said Taylor was terminated because of departmental policy and he has not been charged at this time.
