Researchers at Coastal Carolina University have released their most recent numbers on tourism and the economy.
Preliminary results from the university’s voluntary sample of hotels, condos, and campground properties along the Grand Strand shows that during the week of September 28th to October 4th , midweek occupancy rates averaged 38.2%, that’s down by 7.9% compared to the same time last year.
Researchers at the Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism also report that while average occupancy in the area was lower than expected during last weekend, vacation rental home occupancy by reservations has been up substantially all week.
Researchers note that the analysis is based on samples; actual business performance results may vary.
