Kingstree man faces burglary charge

A Kingstree man was arrested Wednesday after police said he entered a convenience store that had been left unlocked, Kingstree Police Chief Robert Ford said.

Prilles McCray, 41, of Kingstree is charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny, Ford said.

Police said the crime happened Tuesday when a clerk at the Scotchman Convenience store on Longstreet Street left for the night without locking both of its doors. The suspect came by later and helped himself to several items, including lottery tickets and beer, Ford said.

After leaving the Scotchman, the suspect went next door and took tools from a work truck parked behind the Phillips 66 gas station, Ford said.

McCray remains in custody at the Williamsburg County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
