County to honor fallen officer with road dedication

Adell Stalvey says his brother, fallen Horry County Police Sergeant Henry Stalvey, would have loved the recognition.
The 9-year veteran of the force died when a drunk driver hit him head-on the night of September 12, 1986, on Highway 9 near Loris.
Sgt. Stalvey, on duty and in his patrol car, was returning from helping Highway Patrol with a call.
Adell said Henry never set out to be a police officer.
"He actually went to put in as a mechanic for Horry County," said Adell. "He found out (the police job) was open, and he put in (for it.)"
Representatives with the Horry County Police Department will join others Thursday morning at Red Bluff Crossroads for a dedication of Red Bluff Road as "Sergeant Henry Odell Stalvey Memorial Road."
The crossroads is the intersection of Highway 905 and Red Bluff Road, about a mile north of Highway 22.
The signs are already up, but the official ceremony isn't until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
"It just thrills me to see his name up there. I think he deserves it," said Adell.
