Remember the legend of Andrew Hunter, a scout for General Francis Marion who escaped from the Tories on General David Fanning's horse "Red Doe" during the American Revolution? Guest speaker Mrs. Kevin Munn Lassen will be presenting "The Families of Red Doe Plantation," a program at the October meeting of the Pee Dee Chapter of the S.C. Genealogical Society.

With a longtime interest in family history and genealogy, Lassen serves as President of the Ellison Capers Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, Pee Dee District Director of the South Carolina Division United Daughters of the Confederacy, First Vice President of the Dr. Thomas Finkley Chapter Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century and is a member of the Board of Directors of Red Doe Plantation. Even if someone hasn't heard Hunter's story, they will be intrigued by that story and how a plantation in Florence County came to be named Red Doe Plantation, meeting organizers say.

The Pee Dee Chapter, S. C. Genealogical Society meeting will be at 3 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the Pee Dee Federal Savings & Loan building on Court Street in Marion, across the square from the Marion County Courthouse. The public in invited. Refreshments will be served after the program.
