Monday night, North Myrtle Beach city council approved an annexation plan that adds 1,363 acres, extending the city limits all the way south to the Myrtle Beach city limits near Grand Dunes.
The plan calls for a series of mixed-use, planned unit developments, that, eventually, could double the population of the city.

According to city spokesperson Nicole Aiello, at least 25 percent of the annexed land could be developed within 5 years, and the rest of the land would be fully developed in about 20 years.
The Parkway Group, a collection of developers holding 6 large tracts of land, banded together to ask for the annexation.
Aiello said the plan approved by council calls for lots of park areas, housing areas, and commercial and retail space, although it is too early to say for sure what will go up on the land.
The city will also increase its tax base as the land is developed and more people move to the area.
