The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce will have a press conference and check presentation by State Representative Tracy Edge on behalf of the Jim Caudle Artificial Reef Foundation Tuesday.
According to a press release, this event recognizes the importance of environmental stability and cleanliness of the Intracoastal Waterway in Horry County.
The Jim Caudle Artificial Reef Foundation will use funds received to remove sunken and abandoned vessels from the Intracoastal Waterway, eliminating navigational hazards.
The recovered vessels will be placed on the PA-01, Jim Caudle Artificial Reef, adding to the habitat of multiple species of fish.
When the Reef project began in 2001, PA01 was the least visited artificial reef in the State of South Carolina.
Today, it has the distinction of being the most visited.
Its recognition and funding in part has been aided by the Dixie Chick Funamnet, a local fishing tournament now celebrating its 10th year.
The development and proper management of a system of marine artificial reefs is a long-term investment for the State of South Carolina.
The 45 reefs in South Carolina contribute $83 Million to the State’s economic impact, creating over 1,000 jobs.
