Tuesday morning, members of the SHORE (Students Helping Others Reach Excellence) club at Coastal Carolina University and staff members with the campus counseling services set up on Prince Lawn to get members of the campus community to say "no" to sexual assault.
The campus's first-ever "Take Back The Day" event precedes Tuesday night's annual "Take Back The Night" activities in Conway.
SHORE members manned a tent to get students to pledge against sexual assault, and passed out ribbons for students to wear.
They also handed around a petition for students supported more awareness and prevention programs on campus.
"It you ever tack a zero on the the numbers that are reported, it's closer to the number of actual sexual assaults that occur on college campuses in a year," said Sean Pierce with the CCU counseling center.
"People are here, and anyone's willing to listen," said SHORE club member and sophomore Emily Acree. "It's a lot easier talking to someone your age, (rather) than a adult," she said.
