Coker to mark Centennial Homecoming with
fireworks display Saturday
Coker College will celebrate its Centennial Homecoming with a fireworks display Saturday night.
The fireworks display, produced by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale of Philadelphia, Pa., will begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday, following the men’s homecoming soccer game versus King College (Tennessee).
The fireworks will be launched from the old Byerly Hospital lot on East Carolina Avenue.
For the duration of the program, approximately 15 minutes, all the roads around the old Byerly lot will be closed to traffic. Spectators can gather anywhere outside the perimeter of the launch zone, preferably on Coker’s athletics grounds. Parking is severely limited.

Cotton Trail artists' works
to be displayed in downtown businesses for Jazz! Carolina
In addition to their work being on display in the gallery at the Black Creek Arts Center, eight members of the Artisans of the South Carolina Cotton Trail will have works on display in area businesses for Jazz! Carolina on Saturday.
Frankie Bush will have works in Hobnob Gourmet. Carolyn Govan will have three of her acrylic paintings in Burry Bookstore. Pollie Bristow, Mike Gann, and Laurie Brown will have works in Lulu's Merle Norman.
Johnny Payne and Suzanne Muldrow will have some of their amazing photographs in Vintage. Anne Baldwin will have works in Hartsville Furniture.
American College of Sports Medicine offering
personal trainer workshops
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) will host an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer three-day workshop to prepare for certification.
The workshop, delivered by Fitness Resource Associates (FRA) will help participants attain the "gold standard" in Personal Trainer Certification, as well as the practical knowledge and skill needed to be a top-notch trainer in today's evolving fitness industry.
This workshop provides state-of-the-art information in the exercise sciences, including updated ACSM and industry guidelines as well as behavioral objectives, dimensions of wellness and more.

ACSM is also hosting a Certified Personal Trainer One-Day Workshop for certification review on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the McLeod Health and Fitness Center.
This workshop is designed for currently and previously certified personal trainers who feel confident in their basic knowledge of exercise physiology, anatomy and kinesiology. This program will provide the specific knowledge necessary to be successful in attaining the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer credential.

McLeod Foundation to host estate and financial planning institute
FLORENCE — The McLeod Health Foundation is hosting an Estate & Financial Planning Institute on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the McLeod Medical Plaza Conference Center.
The institute is being coordinated by the Professional Advisory Council to the McLeod Health Foundation. Those who would be interested in attending the institute include attorneys, accountants, financial planners and life insurance agents.
Presenting sponsors for the institute include: Hilliard Lyons, Aiken & Co., Turner Padget, BB&T Wealth Management and Burch Oxner Seale.
Topics will be based on various gifting strategies. The program will feature nationally recognized speaker, Steven Siegel, president of The Siegel Group, a Morristown, N.J.-based national consulting firm specializing in tax consulting, estate planning and advising family business owners and entrepreneurs. Siegel holds a BS from Georgetown University, a JD from Harvard Law School and an LLM in taxation from New York University.
Program Credit Acceptances include:
• Legal: The program has been approved for five hours of MCLE with five hours being approved EPP & Tax Specialty by the SC Supreme Court.
• Life insurance: This course is approved by the South Carolina Department of Insurance for Continuing Insurance Education Credit for five hours for Life, Accident & Health.
• Accounting: Guidelines will be followed in order to offer five hours of CPE credit from the Board of Accountancy.
• Certified Financial Planners: This program has been accepted by the CFP Board for five hours.
