According to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), students receiving free and reduced lunch who attend Title I schools that have not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for three consecutive years must be offered the opportunity to receive supplemental educational services (SES) under Title I funding. These services extend the opportunity for free tutoring for qualifying students.
The tutoring will be provided by independent educational companies who receive payment through federal funds provided to Marion One. Parents may select the program that they would like for their child to participate in. The SES enrollment period is from Oct. 8 – Nov. 19.
A “Tutors for Students Parent Fair” will be from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the Easterling Primary Multi-purpose room. All providers have been invited to present at this fair to discuss the services they have to offer for our students. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to the approved providers who attend the fair in order to make informed decisions about the services that best fit the needs of their child.
Free and reduced lunch students at Easterling Primary, Marion Intermediate School, Johnakin Middle School and Marion High School qualify for Supplemental Educational Services for the 2008 -09 school year.
