Gerald memorial service set
A memorial service for William Levi Gerald will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 11 in the Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence.
Gerald, 54, MD, PhD, scientist and pathologist, died at home in Pelham, N.Y., on Sept. 14, 2008, after his battle against cancer. Born on March 2, 1954, he was the son of Thelma Todd Gerald of Windy Hill Beach and the late Cleeland Talbert Gerald. Dr. Gerald married Lucta Johnson Allen of Marion on May 5, 1979. A full obituary was published in the Sept. 24 issue of the Star & Enterprise and is available under that publication date online.

Timothy Davis
Timothy Davis, 45, died on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. He was the son of Mae Helen Davis and the late Phillip Davis. A native of Brooklyn, he was educated in Jamaica, N.Y,, and was a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church of Jamaica, N.Y. His funeral was on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008 at Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel in Marion, with the Elder Don E. Huffman offering words of comfort.
He is survived by his mother and sister, Teresa Phillips, of Marion. Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery of Marion.

Theodore Williams
A funeral for Theodore Roosevelt "T.R" Williams was on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. Born on Sept. 9, 1926 in Marion County to the late Roosevelt and Letishia Miller Williams, at an early age, he joined Mt. Zion AME Church of Zion. His funeral was conducted in Mt. Zion, with the Rev. Robert Hunter, pastor, as eulogist. Interment was at Florence National Cemetery. Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later, he attended South Carolina State College.
He was the brother of Lee Chester Williams, Dr. James Edward Williams, Alma Christine Gause, and Martha Anderson. He lived for many years in the New York City area and married Mary Jane Ware. They were the parents of Theodore, Carol and Crystal. He worked as a bus operator for the New York City Transit Authority for over 25 years and was a Master Mason, a member of Standard Lodge #22 is Queens.

Ronald Davis
Ronald Davis, 49, died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 in a local hospital. He was the son of Gausta Moody and the late Dorothy Alease Davis. A native of Manhattan, he attended the public schools of Marion County and was married to Sandra J. "Jiffy" Davis. He was the brother of Elmore Davis Jr. of Marion. A funeral was on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 in the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel in Marion, with Pastor Carla Eaddy, eulogist. Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery of Marion.

Mary Butler
Mary E. Davis Butler, 77, died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 in Pines Nursing Home, Dillon. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Minnie Davis and the widow of John Henry Butler. She is the mother of Dorothy and Phyllis of Latta, David of Nesmith, James and the late Minnie Ruth. She was the sister of Zonnie and Mazola of Winter Park, Fla., Liva of Uniondale, N.Y., and James of Columbia. A funeral was at Good Hope AME Church, with the Rev. Dr. Raye T. Nelson, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Soul Chapel Cemetery in Gresham.

Cecil Thomas Bass
Cecil Thomas Bass, 51, husband of Kimberly Vereen Bass, died on Thursday, Sept. 25 2008 in his home. Mr. Bass was born Nov. 19, 1956 in Dillon County, a son of the late Cornie and Daisy Bass and worked with Tripac, Inc. He was a member of Gapway Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Bass in addition to his wife are a daughter, Cecilia Bass Kusznir and her husband Michael of New Jersey; three sons, Shawn Bass, Austin Bass and Thomas Jr.; and a grandchild , Zander Kusznir.
Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chip Scruggs officiating. Burial followed in Old Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Inez H. Lupo
Inez Elizabeth Hunsucker Lupo, 95, widow of John Odell Lupo, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 in her home after an illness. She was born May 22, 1913 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Charles Hall Hunsucker and the late Gertrude Turner Hunsucker. Mrs. Lupo was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Lupo are her children, Eunice Lupo Rogers and her husband R.C. of Mullins, A.C. Lupo of Mullins, Joyce Ann Lupo of Mullins, John Odell “Howard” Lupo Jr. of Florence, Clara Lupo Drew and her husband Lester of Fair Bluff, N.C., and Agnes Lupo Williams and her husband Bob of Calabash, N.C.; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beulah Caulder of Marion. She was predeceased by a son, Jackie Lupo. Services were at 2:30 pm. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Heustess, the Rev. Willie Gillard, and Dr. Kenneth Orbeck officiating. Burial followed in Tranquil Untied Methodist.

Harvey Birdell Perritt
Harvey Birdell Perritt, 71, died Sept. 27, 2008 in a Whiteville, N.C., hospital after an illness. Services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Richardson Funeral Home. Born in Marion, Mr. Perritt was the son of the late Harvey Aaron Perritt and Lessie Mattie Turner Perritt. He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church and worked for Blumenthal Mills. Survivors include a son, Andy Perritt and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Harvey B. Perritt Fund, c/o Wanda Cribb, 1255 Red Bluff Ct., Mullins, S.C. 29574.

Haney B. Johnson
Haney B. Johnson, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 in his home. He was born on Dec. 26, 1923 in Shirley, Va., a son of the late Henderson Taylor Johnson and the Mattie Hall Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired lab technician and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Surviving Mr. Johnson are two brothers, George Johnson and his wife Doris of Mullins and Herbert Johnson of Texas; two nieces, Georgette Britt of Mullins and Sarah Richardson of Mooresville, N.C.
Memorial services are at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Collins officiating.
