LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Take Hartsville back from the criminals

»  Comments | Post a Comment

We citizens of Hartsville need to stand up and take back our town from the gangs, thugs, punks and drug pushers infecting our city. I was sickened while watching the news last night to see the thug who beat to death Keith Hancock, a good, decent businessman. I got chills as this animal twirled his axe handle weapon around with not a care in the world. To watch him, there was no sign of nervousness or conscience at all, he could have just as easily been caught on film at the park.

It seems that daily we hear of break-ins, robberies, vandalism and now murder. I heard yesterday about an elderly couple sitting and watching TV where three punks broke down their door, proceeded to beat them and stole what little money they had along with their wedding bands. From what I understand the elderly couple is still in the hospital. I hate to have to point this out, but as the financial situation gets worse, we are going to see more and more of this activity.

I don’t want to trash the law enforcement personnel; I realize they have a tough job. I just wish that instead of worrying about whether I’m wearing a seat belt or possibly going a mile over the speed limit as I try to get to my job on time, we need police to be taking care of real life threats.

I remember for a while, the front page news of The Messenger was about citizens fighting to keep the pig farm out of Hartsville. Well, while we worried about that, we allowed a whole lot worse to take over our town. I’ve never heard of a pig beating a man over the head for money, or breaking into a car to steal everything out of it.

We have taken God out of our schools and our courts, but wonder why we have a generation of that has no care or concern for anyone but themselves. God is now allowing us to see live with the results of our choices.

Hartsville, it’s time for the citizens to say we’ve had enough, lets take our town back!
