Riva Lynn Jordan Waldron
Riva Lynn Jordan Waldron, 57, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 in the home of her mother. Mrs. Waldron was born on Aug. 20, 1951 in Morganfield, Ky., a daughter of Geneva McCracken Jordan Baumeister and the late William Hubbard Jordan. She was a graduate of Lower Richland High School in Hopkins and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
She was an employee of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Albert S. Waldron Jr. of Georgetown; two sons, William Avery Horton of Florence and John Ingram Horton III and his wife Lori of Pawley’s Island; two daughters, Jennifer Kelly Mason of Charleston and Leila Catherine Horton Rabon and her husband Craig of Murrells Inlet; her mother of Georgetown; two sisters, Ella Kay Port of Georgetown and Jennifer Jordan Mills of Chattanooga, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were on Sept. 27, 2008 at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating was the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins and Dr. William H. Puckett Jr. Burial followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

Mildred H. Chestnut
Mildred H. Chestnut, 85, died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 in Marion County Medical Center. Mrs. Chestnut was the daughter of the late Wilbur Hammond and Estelle McMillan. She was predeceased by her husband, James O. Chestnut.
Surviving are her two sons, James Allen Chestnut (Dottie) of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Roberts Winslow Chestnut of Mullins; one sister, Katharine Cook of Nichols, one grandson, Christopher Ryan Chestnut of Myrtle Beach and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at Devotion Gardens at 3p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008
Sandy Alard Stroud
Sandy Alard Stroud Jr., 53, died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 in Conway Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Stroud was the son of the late Sandy Alard and Kitty Rogers Stroud and a 1977 graduate of the Citadel. He was a CPA and farmer. He was instrumental in working to establish the Cedar Creek Cemetery of Raleigh, N.C.
Graveside services were at Cedar Creek Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, with the Rev. Floyd Enzor officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Creek Cemetery Fund, C/O Dale Willoughby, 521 Willoughby Road, Nichols, 29581.
Zoey McKenzie Rowell
Zoey McKenzie Rowell, infant of Eddie J. Rowell Jr. and Jessica Elliott Rowell, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 in McLeod Medical Center after an illness.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 in Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Benton officiating. Services were directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Zoey was born Sept. 27, 2008 in Marion. Surviving Zoey, in addition to her parents of Nichols, are her maternal grandmother, Teresa Elliott of Mullins; maternal grandfather Don Elliott and his wife Donna of Green Sea; paternal grandfather, Eddie J. Rowell Sr. and his wife Esther of Aynor; her paternal grandmother, Tina Marie Rowell and her fiancée’ Howard Cook of Nichols; her maternal great-grandmother Molly Perritt and her husband Carlton; her maternal great-grandmother and great-grandfather, Elizabeth and Cecil Jones; her paternal great-grandmother Mary Lou Gardner and her paternal grandmother, Mary Bell Haire.
Zoey was predeceased by her twin sister, Jalyn Leeann Rowell.

Jimmy Saville
James Wesley “Jimmy” Saville, Jr., 77, of 677 Old Highway 25, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. Born in Winston Salem, N.C., he was the second son of the late James W. Saville and Pauline Seal Saville.
Mr. Saville served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged in the early 1960s. He then worked as a grade foreman for Eastern Contractors for more than 20 years. He also worked at Peterson Lumber in Travelers Rest for almost 20 years until the closing of the business. Mr. Sarville was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary L. Saville; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth S. “Nicky” and Sharon Ann Saville of Travelers Rest; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Ronnie Edwards of Nichols and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Sonny Saville, Jack Saville and Kenny Saville.
Services were at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at The Howze Mortuary Chapel, burial followed at North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baltson Unit 5th floor, St. Francis Hospital 1 St. Francis Drive, Greenville, 29601
Myrtle B. Pakkanen
Myrtle Baxley Jackson Pakkanen, 87, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 in Marion County Medical Center after an illness. Graveside services were on Sept. 24, 2008 in Cedardale Cemetery.
Mrs. Pakkanen was born January 15, 1921 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Malcolm and Cally Parker Baxley. She was retired from AVM. Mrs. Pakkanen was a member of Langston Baptist Church in Conway.
Surviving Mrs. Pakkanen are her children, William Jackson and his wife Jean of Mullins, Sarah Lee and her husband John of Murrells Inlet, Jeanette Christmas and her husband Paul of Murrells Inlet and Earl Jackson and his wife LaTrelle of Florence; seven grandchildren; 12 great children; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Perham and her husband Jim of Acworth, Ga.
Mrs. Pakkanen was predeceased by her first husband, Floyd Jackson and second husband, Ernie Pakkanen.
Larry Carroll Turner
Larry Carroll Turner, 62, of Callao, Va., formerly of Brittons Neck, died Monday Sept. 22, 2008 in Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond, Va., after an illness. Services were on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Richardson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Family Cemetery at Britton’s Neck. Born in Marion County, Mr. Turner was the son of the Archie Turner and Bessie Lawson Turner. He was of the Baptist faith and a service technician in the telecommunication field.
Surviving are his wife, Earline Ruth Humerickhouse Turner; two sons, Darrell Turner of Debary, Fla., and Tim (Angela) Turner of Warsaw, Va.; a daughter, Sharon Turner (Mark) Jett of Warsaw, Va.; two sisters, Marian Barfield and Deborah Collins of Galivants Ferry; a nephew, who is like a brother, Legrande Hucks of Brittons Neck and eight grandchildren.
