A Darlington man was arrested Friday after police said he had a fit of road rage and used his vehicle to shove a motorist into oncoming traffic, Darlington Police Capt. Danny Watson said.

Harold Dean Walters, 49, of 2536 E. Old Camden Road is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, Darlington County Detention Center booking reports show.

The incident happened at the intersection of Orange and Main streets in Darlington when the suspect became angry and rammed his truck into the back of a vehicle waiting in front of him.

“He tried to push the car out into the middle of the intersection. When you do that it’s (assault and battery with intent to kill),” Watson said.

The victim felt the vehicle moving and put his foot on the brake to keep it from going into traffic. The suspect was arrested after a brief police investigation, Watson said.

Walters was released Saturday from the Darlington County jail after posting a $10,000 surety bond.
