Travelers at Myrtle Beach Airport

According to AAA Carolinas, close to 73, 000 South Carolinians will travel by air. Officials there say they anticipate the number of travelers to grow if the price of gasoline continues to drop.

"I think Sunday after Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest travel day of the year for the airlines", says Sandra Horton of AAA Myrtle Beach. "We are seeing people out there flying and maybe they're making that choice over driving this year because they booked those tickets far in advance to get a good price".

Travelers leaving town to visit family and friends say the best way to nab a great deal is simply booking early. Nathan Nab of New York says, he and his wife came to Myrtle Beach to visit their son before Thanksgiving because he says, they were able to find a cheaper deal as oppose to traveling close to the big holiday.

"We don't drive we look for the better deal whether it's to fly or to drive prices are cheaper than it is to drive-especially if you're more than two people".

AAA still expects Carolina travel to be down this year from last, because of the economy.

However, state troopers think those numbers on the roads, may be up.
