Funeral services for John Wayne Crisp, 60, who died Nov. 19, 2008, will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. Danny Pierce and Reggie McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be following the service at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Crisp was born in Hartsville a son of Margaret Harrell Crisp and the late Harry Edward Crisp Sr.
Surviving are his mother of Hartsville; sons, John William (Tonya) Crisp, Harry Edward Crisp IV, Brian Jennings Crisp; daughter, Shannon Renee Crisp, all of Hartsville; sister, Terry (Charles) Land of Manning; 11 grandchildren; one nephew.

Mrs. Gunnells, widow of William R. "Bill" Gunnells, died Sunday, Nov. 16. Born in Mullins, she was a daughter of the late Lee Roy and Willie Bryant Shelley. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Hartsville Country Club for over 40 years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Vi Melissa Humphries of Chapin, Shelley and Michael Bowen of Chapin; sister and brother-in-law, Marvin and Chris Gunnells of Columbia; brothers and sister-in-law, Harmon and Billie Shelley of Laurinburg, NC, Lanneau Lambert of Durham, NC; grandchildren and spouse, Ryan Bowen of Irmo, SC, Hanna Bowen of Chapin, Ali Bowen of Chapin, Coleman Humphries of Chapin, Cory and Sherry Humphries of Chapin; great-grandchild, Evan Humphries of Chapin.

Mrs. Jackson, widow of Charles A. "Punk" Jackson, Brigadier General, USA (Retired), died Tuesday, Nov. 18, at home. Born in St. Paul, Minn., she was a daughter of the late Van Wesley and Catherine Conroy Bumgardner. She was a registered nurse in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.
She was predeceased by two sons, Charles A. Jackson Jr. and Stephen Jackson.

CAROLYN ANNE BROWN, Ph.D.
Carolyn Anne Brown passed away on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at St. John's Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., surrounded by the loving presence of her husband, Beau, and her son, Julian.
Anne was born in Dillon and raised in Hartsville. She was the youngest child and only daughter of Jim L. and Mable B. Brown.
An accomplished scholar, Anne graduated valedictorian of her high school class and Cum Laude from the College of Charleston in 1976 after winning the Annual Award for Excellence in Writing and for Distinguished Academic Achievement. She earned her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia. As a doctoral graduate student, she was the recipient of a university-wide research assistantship in 1987 and 1988. She completed an internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which included specialized training in preventive medicine, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapy and treatment of eating disorders. As a newly licensed
psychologist, she worked at the Veterans Admini-stration Hospital in Charleston and the Georgia Mental Health Institute in Atlanta prior to establishing her private practice.
Anne was a principal associate at the Atlanta Center for Cognitive Therapy from 1993 until her passing. As a psychotherapist, her colleagues and patients alike will remember Dr. Brown as a compassionate person whose clinical acumen, ever-nurturing spirit and clinical skill touched the lives of many. Anne's membership affiliations include The American Psychological Association and The Society of Behavioral Medicine.
Anne was a trainer of The Solution, a method that was developed at the University of California, San Francisco's School of Medicine. She pioneered the development of the method in its application to those who were most vulnerable to psychological stress. She wrote the provider training materials that prepare health professionals in the use of the method. She was revered by the other trainers for her staunch support of expanding method research. Anne will be profoundly missed by The Solution Community and by program participants. Many benefited from the depth of her love, her extraordinary acumen and deep sensitivity. Anne truly embodied the method. Her embracing of it inspired so many individuals that a memorial in her honor has been established at the Institute for Health Solutions.
Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Mable. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband, Beau Smith and her loving son, Julian James Charles Smith. Julian, now 10 years old, possesses much of his mother's sweetness, light, understanding and compassion. Anne was a loving mother, and Julian was the light of her life.
Other family members who will continue to treasure special memories of Anne include her father, James L. Brown
of Hartsville; brothers Edward, of Atlanta, Robert, of Hartsville; and a niece, Dorian, of Atlanta, Ga. Anne also leaves behind a host of cousins and special and caring friends, including Pam Gilchrist of Athens, Ga.
A service in celebration of her life will be conducted by the Rev. Carolynne Williams at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Rd. N.W., Atlanta, Ga., 30305 at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 21. After the service, the family will receive friends in the Court of Gratitude and encourages mourners to stroll through the Work of Our Hands Artists Market, also being held on the same day. EDDIE HICKMON III
Funeral services for Eddie Hickmon III will be today, Nov. 21, 2008, at the Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc. with Bishop Joe C. Tisdale officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Mr. Hickmon, 70, died Saturday, Nov. 15, at his residence. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late Eddie and Classie Abron Hickmon II. He attended Lee County public schools. His daughter recalls that he was a builder and woodworker, fabricating all kinds of things from chairs to tables to sheds. He loved giving attention to his grandchildren and being with them. He was a farm worker for many years, starting as a youngster. After retiring from farm work, he spent much of his time working around his house.
He met and married Eva Mae Spann on Oct. 1, 1955. To this union, 14 children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sister Eva Mae Hickmon of the home; 10 sons, William Lee (Mary) of Bishopville, Albert (Deborah) of Elgin, James (Carolyn) of Bishopville, Phillip (Lateisha) of Lamar, Levern (Judy), Michael, Anthony (Sharon) and Cornell, all of Bishopville, Donnell (Joanna) of Hartsville and Andrew (Tammie) of Bishopville. He also leaves four daughters, Eva (Larry) Hickmon, Betty (Robert) Cooley, Sis. Dianne (Floyd) Mickens and Carolyn (Elmore) Hickmon, all of Bishopville, and Patricia Baker of Jacksonville, Fla.
Also left are five brothers, David (Ada Bell) of Bishopville, Wiley (Sis. Willie Mae) of Sumter, Roosevelt (Mary Ann) of Bishopville, Leroy and James, both of Bishopville; five sisters, Louise (Prince) McKay of Darlington, Sis. Rosalee Hickmon, Sis. Belinda Covington, Sis. Classie (Harry) Century and Naomi Hickmon, all of Bishopville. He also leaves two aunts, Nora Cook and Vicey Hickmon, both of Bishopville; one uncle, Dave Hickmon of Philadelphia, Pa.; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. He also leaves 69 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
