LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Material things won't make our lives better

Is the federal government trying to correct a problem that has gone on for too long? Is it fixable? It was in 1929.

It was fixed by Americans returning to a third world country way of life and not a cash printing press.

The politicians weren’t above the law and the executives of corporations weren’t selfish and greedy as those of today. To get back to an economy that competes with the business world that exists today you have to follow their lead.

First, you can’t continue to raise the minimum wage every year to accommodate inflation. All you are doing there is raising the price of products and services in this country and the rest of the world’s prices are staying the same.

Second, if a product is put on the market that is unique and limited because the supply is limited and demand is high, we have to control our desires.
Be smart enough not go camp out at the store two days in advance to buy it and the demand will not be there. Thus, the price will not start off 1000 percent more than it’s worth.

Remember how high the price of computers, printers, electronic phones and players’ cost when they first came out? I remember buying a photo printer for $640 and now you can get a better one for $50.

Americans have spoiled themselves with material things thinking it would fill that void in our lives but it won’t. We are as much the blame for the situation we are in as the government; city, county, state and federal.

We have to go back to basics and learn to live with the necessities of life. It will improve our life, health, decrease our stress and make life in this world a lot more pleasant and a lot longer too.

It wouldn’t hurt to get ready for the next life, too. That one is going to be a lot longer and better if you know what I mean?
