A new bus route is coming to the coast.
Starting on Dec. 8, The COAST RTA., the bus service that provides transportation primarily in Horry County and in the city of Georgetown, will branch out to more areas in Georgetown County.
David Bodle, with COAST said the Georgetown connector will enable people to get from Andrews all the way to Myrtle Beach for less than $2.
Bodle said the route is designed to get into the underserved rural parts of the county.
"The RTA's mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents and part of that is helping folks get to work." said Bodle.
Georgetown County councilman and COAST board member Thomas E. Drayton, said county council is paying $220,000 to fund the connector.
Drayton said the goal is to provide public transportation for those who need it the most.
"For those of us who are fortunate to have transportation, we sometimes think well that's it, but there's a whole lot of folks who don't have transportation, this is a wonderful opportunity for those folks to get to Myrtle Beach to seek employment." said Drayton.
When the Georgetown Connector starts, Bodle said it’s going to cost you 50 cents to ride, until they set regular price.
Phase Two of the Georgetown Connector doesn't have a launch date yet, but it will include even more towns like Kensington, Chopee, and Dunbar.
