A Florence man was arrested after he claimed he was robbed by a police officer, Bennettsville police said.
Jeraimane Gattison, 23, of 3201 Meadow Brook Road Drive, is charged with filing a false police report, Bennettsville police said.
The suspect called police Wednesday night to say he’d been robbed on Spencer Street in Bennettsville, according to to police reports. The suspect said he was approached by a police officer who handcuffed him and robbed him. He said the officer took his money, cell phone and other contents he had in his pockets, then put in the back seat of another police car.
Police said they believe the suspect had been robbed at some point Wednesday night, though not by a police officer, and that crime remains under investigation.
