A Latta man has been charged in 26-count indictment with credit card fraud, possession of counterfeit checks and aggravated identity theft, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said in a press release.
William Lashon Campbell, also known as Waylon Maurice Caldwell, 25, is accused of making and cashing counterfeit commercial checks, and making purchases with stolen credit card numbers from customers of the finance company where he worked.
Campbell faces a $250,000 fine and 12 years in prison if convicted.
The case was investigated by Latta police and U.S. Secret Service agents, and is assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Day II of the Florence office for prosecution.
