A judge has set bond at $150,000 for a Latta woman accused of forcing her 5-year-old stepson to take a hot bath, causing the child to receive severe burns, WBTW News13 reported.

Dartisha Henson, 23, of 540 Player Court, Latta, is charged with cruelty to children.

Bond was set at $50,000 for the child’s father, 57-year-old Billy Avant, who also lives at 540 Player Court. He is charged as an accessory after the fact to cruelty to children.

Both turned themselves in late Friday afternoon.

Investigator Buzzy Finklea said the incident happened Nov. 6 at a Latta home. When the boy’s father came home, he heard his son crying, noticed his burns and peeling skin and took to him the Marion County Medical Center. The boy later was airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga.
