Myrtle Beach football and basketball coach Greg Skipper was laid to rest in Conway on Sunday.
The young men he coached are remembering the words he told them throughout the years: "Real men go to work everyday.”
Skipper was in charge of the offensive line of the Myrtle Beach High School football team. They and the rest of the squad came together Sunday to remember their coach.
Myrtle Beach left guard Caleb Desjardins says, "He was basically a father to the O-line for pretty much as long as I've been playing football for the school."
Now, the team is motivated to finish their season, while honoring one of their leaders.
Desjardins also says he and the team plan to, "Play for him if not for anything else, that's what he wanted in the end. He said that he wanted to come out how he came in, and his first year here he won a state championship, so he wanted to go out how he came in.”
The group of offensive linemen says he was the heart and soul of the team and not having him here is devastating.
Right tackle Trevor Zito says, "He wasn't just like an O-line coach, he was like a family member for the whole team."
The entire team filed in buses to attend Sunday's funeral for a man they say was always lifting their spirits.
The funeral took place at 3 p.m. and Head Football Coach Scott Earley recited the eulogy.
