Healthcare, business, and accounting, according to administrators at Horry Georgetown Technical College, those are the jobs they have the highest number of placements.
Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Marilyn Fore said, about the healthcare profession, “It is the highest demand in terns of both the employment opportunities, the hospital, doctors offices, all of our medical outlets, as well as on the other side, it’s where the greatest number of students want to enter programs.”
Fore also said the college is looking to add respiratory and physical therapy to its list of courses, which already include many healthcare fields like nursing, pharmacy technician, dental hygiene, and massage therapist. Fore said the most recent request for employees from Grand Strand professional is in the field of construction project management. Fore said builders, contractors, and architects told the college they are looking to hire people over the next three years, so now the college offers a two year associate degree in construction project management.
“If a student doesn’t have a job to go to it’s primarily because the student doesn’t want to be employed, we have a 95% placement rate with business and industry.” Said Fore.
