FLORENCE — Florence County officials still were in the process Wednesday night of sorting and counting about 3,000 or more absentee ballots.
Because of a number of close races, such as Florence City Council, and the Sunday alcohol sales referendum, there is a possibility those results could change.
Though at this point the process is automated, election officials are taking out the ballots that the machine won't read, then re-running them individually. If that doesn't work, then the ballot is hand-counted.
Interim Florence County Elections Director Steve Love said poll workers have been working nearly around the clock to make sure every vote is counted.
“We’ve got all the paper ballots to go through,” he said Wednesday morning. “We’ve got to group them by Absentee (ballot for) One through Four precincts. Then we’ve got to read each of those precincts plus any fail safe ballots that came through yesterday during the election — read them and then add them into the total.”
Love said poll workers were at Election Headquarters until 3 a.m. Wednesday, and were back on the job at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
