A federal grand jury indicted a Hartsville man on a federal firearms charge.
Clarence Brunson, 29, is charged in the indictment with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to U.S. Attorney Kevin F. McDonald.
The charge stems from an incident last February at the Swift Creek Apartments in Hartsville, when Brunson was shot by a responding officer after he allegedly pointed a pistol towards the officer.
The indictment charges that Brunson is a convicted felon, and not authorized to possess a firearm under federal law.
If convicted, the maximum penalty Brunson could receive is life imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Hartsville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham of the Florence Office as a part of Project Cease Fire, an initiative of the United States Attorneys Office targeting gun crimes.
