Darlington County sheriff’s deputies arrested five people in a shooting incident Wednesday that authorities say may be gang related.
The incident happened at around 3 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in progress at a location on Mary’s Drive near Darlington, according to a news release issued by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived to find two suspects fighting in the yard, according to the release. Backup officers arrived, and the two individuals were separated and placed in investigatory detention.
No one was struck by gunfire, but one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a human bite wound, according to the release.
Investigators from the sheriff’s office arrived and began processing the scene for evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Preliminary investigation results indicate that several individuals arrived in a vehicle and began firing shots at a person who was at a mobile home at the location, according to the release.
The individual returned fire and then ran into a mobile home pursued by the individuals from the vehicle. One of the men kicked in the front door of the mobile home, and the man who had taken refuge inside fled from the mobile home into some nearby woods, according to the release.
He returned when he heard deputies arrive and get into an altercation with one of the other men, according to the release.
Two mobile homes were struck by gunfire, which penetrated the walls into the residence. Children were present in at least one of the residences, according to the release.
Deputies and investigators arrested all of the individuals believed to be involved in the incident and charged them.
Those facing charges include: Raymond Seanonthy Wilson, 28, of Westlender Ave., Mesa, Ariz., charged with assault and battery with intent to kill; Anthony B. Thomas, 27, E. Shenandoah, Florence, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill; Laquincy Emmanuel Williams, 22, First Street, Darlington, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill; Antron Jackson, 22, Mary Street, Darlington, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill; Christopher Leroy Jackson, 24, Plum Street, Darlington, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
All five were in custody at the Darlington County Detention Center Thursday morning.
Additional charges may be filed against some of the suspects, according to the release.
In addition, warrants are being issued for one suspect who left the area before deputies arrived, according to the release.
