After the recent bike rallies that just ended, some Myrtle Beach city leaders want them ended permanently. Officials said they are fed up with the rallies and the problems that come with them
Myrtle Beach city council member Mike Chestnut says major changes are needed or they're not going to support the event in the future.
"We just gonna shut it down. But to be honest with ya, I'm not sure how we can shut it down, but can we do things to make, we're not gonna go out of our way to bend over backwards and make like easy. We're not gonna do anything to take rights away from people, but at the same time we're gonna do stuff to protect our citizens and to protect this city,” said Chestnut.
Chestnut said the murder over the weekend is one too many.
"I done heard the phone call and I done had the phone calls telling me oh Mike, shootings take place anytime of the year, that's true but this one happened to take place this time of the year and happened to take place during this event. A young man being shot over a $10 or $20 parking fine or parking fee and that's uncalled for and we're not gonna put up with that kind of behavior,” said Chestnut.
Chestnut said over the next months the city will talk about meeting with other municipalities and their problems with the event.
"At least talk about how can we make some changes maybe meet with the police. Maybe even meet with some of the ministers in the community,” said Chestnut.
Chestnut said they're also not going to waste taxpayer money to fund the event or make improvements.
And while he's focusing on the bike fest problems, he said he has no problem getting rid of both rallies, just to be fair.
