A man suspected in an officer-involved shooting in Hartsville has been indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin F. McDonald said in a press release.
Clarence Brunson, 29, of 223 Stoneybrook Drive, Hartsville, faces life in prison if convicted.
The charge stems from an incident Feb. 9 at the Swift Creek Apartments in Hartsville, when Brunson was shot by a responding Hartsville police officer after he allegedly pointed a pistol towards him. Brunson was treated and later released from an area hospital.
The case also was investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham of the Florence office as a part of Project Cease Fire, an initiative of the U.S. Attorneys Office targeting gun crimes.
