A Candor, N.C., has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine in connection with a Dillon County traffic stop, acting U.S. Attorney Kevin F. McDonald said in a press release.
U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell accepted the plea from 27-year-old Augustin Dominguez-Martinez and will sentence him later.
In October, Dominguez-Martinez was stopped on Interstate 95 by Dillon police for a traffic violation.
Based on his nervous behavior and inconsistent answers to questions, the officer asked for and received consent to search the car.
During the search, he found a kilogram of cocaine hidden under the back seat.
Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence office is prosecuting the case, which also was investigated by the the Drug Enforcement Administration.
