A Society Hill man was arrested Wednesday and faces five counts of assault and battery with intent to kill in connection with a Saturday shooting at Darlington’s American Legion building, according to a press release issued Thursday by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting injured at least four people, according to the release.
Dominic Bernard Jackson, 18, of Rosenwald Street remained in custody Thursday at the Darlington County Detention Center.
A deputy was checking the building, located on Harry Byrd Highway near Darlington, at 11:20 p.m. Saturday when he saw people running out the front and back doors and called for backup because of the large crowd. Witnesses said several men fired shots into the crowd, striking at least four people, the release said.
The victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, and their injuries weren’t thought to be life-threatening, according to the release.
Authorities aren’t sure if any other arrests will be made in connection with the shooting, which deputies think might be gang related.
