CHARLES H. DAVIS

Charles H. Davis died on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at his home after an illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will be receiving friends at the residence at 2337 E. Home Ave. Mr. Davis is the husband of Bishop Vera Davis, pastor of Nazareth Apostolic Holiness Church.

GIBSON ZIMMERMAN JR.

SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Gibson Zimmerman Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. Mr. Zimmerman, 89, died Sunday, May 4, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Chesterfield County. He was the first son of the late Gibson and Annie Samuel Zimmerman Sr. He received his education in the public schools in the area. He was a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of Pee Dee Lodge 56. Surviving are his wife, Ida Mae Zimmerman of Society Hill; four daughters, Mattie (Nelson) Samuel of Denver, Colo., Ernestine Poe of Brooklyn, N.Y., Linda Zimmerman and Lorraine Z. Bruce, both of Society Hill; one son, Johnnie (Belinda) Holloway of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Annie Mae Antrum of Society Hill; two brothers, Edward (Ernestine) Zimmer-man of Society Hill and David Zimmerman of Sacramento, Calif; one brother-in-law, General (Herling) Jackson of Winston Salem, N.C.; a host of other close relatives and friends.

LAMAR — Jobe F. “J.F.” “Jeff” Reynolds, 69, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar, with burial following in Lamar Cemetery. Born in Darlington County, J.F. was a son of the late Eugene and Thamia Howell Reynolds. He was a graduate of Lamar High School and owned and operated Reynolds Insurance Agency. Jeff was a member of Lamar Free Will Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Church, where he sang in the choir and enjoyed being involved with many church activities. Mr. Reynolds will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and a friend to all. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Humphries Reynolds of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Nannette and Leonard “Rusty” Bradshaw; three grandchildren, Lance, Jordan and Matthew Bradshaw; a brother, David (Bonnie) Reynolds, three sisters, Betty (Ed) Griggs, Eula Jean (Billy) Taylor, all of Lamar, and Rachel Jones of Petersburg, Va. Funeral services for Elisha Landon “E.L.” Graham, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 9, 2008, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Randy Sharp will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House of the Pee Dee, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence SC 29506. Mr. Graham died Wednesday, May 7. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Elisha Landon and Mariem Bundy Graham. He was a loving father and grandfather and was a very humorous man. He enjoyed the outdoors and sharing time with family. He served in the U.S. Navy. Funeral services for William C. “Boo Boo” Hicks, 47, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Middendorf Church of God. The Rev. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of William and Toni Hicks, 17475 Highway #1, Patrick. Mr. Hicks died Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Cecil Boykin Hicks and the late Gene Hicks. He lived to make others happy. He was employed with The Louver Shop of Hartsville. Surviving are his wife, Lynn Cropley Hicks of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, William and Toni Hicks Jr. of Patrick; daughter, Brandy Hicks of Myrtle Beach; mother of Pine Ridge; sister, Renee Hicks of Pine Ridge; grandchildren, Zachery Hicks, Anthony Hicks, Landon Jackson, Maria Hicks. CHRISTINE RIVERS BROOKS

Graveside services for Christine Rivers Brooks, 74, widow of Billy Brooks, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 7, 2008, in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brooks died Monday, May 5. She was born in Hartsville a daughter of the late Ross and Mary Davidson Rivers. She was a charter member of North Hartsville Baptist Church. She and her late husband Billy, owned and operated Brooks Lawn & Garden for more than 30 years.

Surviving are grandchildren, Billy and Zim Brooks of Hartsville, Crystal Hodge of Darlington; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brooks of Hartsville; great-grandchildren Ariana, Briana, Caleb, Delaney Hodge of Darlington, Billy Brooks II, Dakota Brooks of Hartsville. Funeral services for Peggy “Sue” Adams Smith, 46, will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 7, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, May 4. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of Louise Langston Adams and the late Willard Adams. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery on Sunday and Wednesday. She was an owner of Top Quality Lawn Care LLC, worked at Quiet Brook Produce, Uncle Bert’s Produce and PIM Farms for many years. She loved pets, kids, and was a devoted wife and mother.

Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Derrick Smith of Hartsville; son, Reagan Smith of Hartsville; daughters, Kristen Smith of Hartsville, Jarrett Smith of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat Blackmon of Darlington, Joyce and Gary Jones of Darlington, Jeanne and Von Tolson of Lamar, Faye Dixon of Darlington, Denise Poole of Dovesville; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Lou Adams of Dovesville, Danny Adams of Dovesville; mother-in-law, Amelia Smith of Hartsville; special friend, Debbie Vazquez of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Adams, and her sister, Gail Griggs.

PAULINE JENKINS

Funeral services for Pauline Denny Jenkins, 92, will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 7, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Pauline, the daughter of the late John Gabriel and Mary Eliza Jones Denny and the wife of the late Thomas Daniel Jenkins, was born in Hartsville on Sept. 4, 1915. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, graduated from Coker College, helped her father in and later managed Denny Brothers Jewelry Store, and taught in Darlington County Schools. For many years she was a Pilot Club member and hospital volunteer, and for all of her years she wanted to be a true friend to those she met.

She was predeceased by her husband and by her brother Charles Edward Denny. Surviving are many relatives blessed by her life; among these are her sister-in-law, Rue Denny; nieces and nephews, Mary Esther Denny, Pat and Jerry Burkett, John and Neita Denny, Joy and Randy Seif, Jackie Ray and Phil Anderson.
