Several Pee Dee school districts have conducted filings for new members to be elected to the board of trustees.
Chesterfield County School District and Florence School Districts 3 and 5 have all held a filing period for open seats.
Filings haven’t begun for Darlington, Florence 1 and 4, Marlboro and Williamsburg counties because school board elections will be held in November.
Chesterfield County School District
Filing for Chesterfield will end today.
Incumbents include Chad L. Vick (District 4), Jerry D. Holley (District 5), James N. Sweeney (District 6), William B. Watson (District 7) and Steven W. Humphries (District 8).
Holley, who has served 23 years on the board, and Watson, who has served 17 nonconsecutive years on the board, will not seek another term.
Vick, Sweeney and Humphries were unavailable for comment by press time.
Candidates who filed include Jamie Wayne (District 5), Shannon Burr (District 7), Roger A. Wolf (District 7) and James C. Williamson (District 8).
Wayne, 38, is a McBee native and a graduate of McBee High School. He is a service technician for Prestige Farms in Camden. He and his wife, Michele, have two daughters, Megan, 16, and Shelby, 12.
Wayne said he wanted to joined the board as another way for him to serve and help the community.
Wolf, 61, has lived in Cheraw for the past eight years. Wolf has served as an elementary school teacher and principal for the past 30 years. He retired from Anderson County School District. He is a manager at Cheraw Country Club. Wolf received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bob Jones University and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Clemson University. Wolf and his wife, Margaret, have two daughters, Allison, 28, Lauren, 22.
Florence School District 3
Filing for Florence 3 will end at noon Monday.
Incumbents include David Eaddy Sr. (Seat 4A), Amos Major (Seat 5) and Dr. John Coleman (Seat 7A).
Coleman hadn’t filed as of Friday. Eaddy and Major were unavailable for comment by press time. No telephone number was listed for Coleman.
Candidates include Gracie S. Hannah (Seat 5) and Mark Hancock (Seat 7A).
Hancock, 44, is a Lake City native and a graduate of Lake City High School. Hancock has served as a jet engine mechanic for the U.S. Marine Corps.
He and his wife, Judy, have two sons: Zachary, 16, and Jonathan, 13.
Florence School District 5
Florence School District 5’s election will be in September.
Incumbents include Jeffrey Tanner (District 3) and Holly Wall (at-large District 6).
Tanner and Wall were unavailable for comment by press time.
Details on candidate filing weren’t available by press time.
