Last Thursday, an Horry County Grand Jury handed up indictments against Atlantic Beach mayor, Irene Armstrong and town manager, Marcia Conner.
Armstrong is charged with three counts of vote buying and one count of misconduct in office.
Conner faces two counts of misconduct in office and one count of violation of employer's obligation to police retirement fund.
In May of 2005, Atlantic Beach town council suspended town manager, Carolyn Montgomery, then hired Marcia Conner as interim manager.
Mayor Armstrong told News13 before town council voted to hire Conner, they interviewed several candidates, before choosing Conner.
Conner became town manager in November 2005 and council paid her $4,000 a month to work three days a week.
One of the first goals Conner told News13 she wanted to achieve when she took the job was to put Atlantic Beach police officers on the job 24 hours a day.
Before coming to Atlantic Beach, Conner served as town manager in Durham, NC from 2001 until July 2004.
In Durham, Conner's main goal was to find a police chief to replace former Durham police chief, Teresa Chambers, who left to head up the U.S. Park Police in Washington, DC, according to the Austin Chronicle.
