The eight annual ACT-SO Youth Fashion and Variety Show did not disappoint the May 31 audience at St. Paul Baptist Church in Mullins. Many said the show was the best they had ever seen. It included the latest casual and evening fashions, praise dancers from St. Paul and Mt. Carmel Baptist churches, Kelly Singleton, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Marching Unit, Justine Roberts Performing Arts Academy, Delta Gems, dancer Trey Johnson.
ACT-SO contestants who participated were Elmore Davis, Shalice Wilson, April Rayon, and Victory Williams. The second half of the show included a dramatic skit with a bit of humor. Several door prizes and a gift card were given away. Sheika Hill was the directress, Toni Constant assisted with the music and Isaac Black visual and photos. On June 8, the members of the Tri-County Men’s Choir under the direction of Derrick Weeks presented a gospel benefit program at St. Paul Baptist Church. It was an uplifting spiritual program enjoyed by all in attendance.
The Tri-County Men’s Choir Program and the Fashion and Variety Show were given to raise funds for the nine local high school students who will be going to Florida on July 30-August 3, 2008 to complete in the National NAACP/ACT-SO Scholarship Competition. The students and chairperson Connie Black thanks Sheika Hill, the men of Tri-County Choir, and all the performers for their support of ACT-SO.
