New jobs bring hope to the unemployed

»  Comments | Post a Comment

With jobs like Monster and Heinz moving to the Pee Dee, people are hoping it will become easier to find a job.

Robert Jacobs is in the same boat as many other Americans who are searching for employment.

Jacobs recently relocated to Florence and is hoping he can soon catch a break.

"I have been looking for a job for a while, but I just changed areas so now I am hoping I can get into a different field,” Jacobs said.

Carol Ford is the Area Director for the South Carolina Employment Security Commission.

"The Pee Dee is booming with new industries and we encourage applicants to build their skill level up,” Ford said.

Pee Dee unemployment numbers are significantly higher than the state average

According to the latest numbers provided by the Employment Security Commission, Marion and Marlboro counties have the highest unemployment rates in our area.

But Jacobs is pleased to see so many new jobs coming to Florence.

"That's good for business, that's good for the town,” Jacobs said.
