As the school year ends, the summer looms with great joy, excitement and activity. It is always a good time to reflect, and revisit the successes and challenges of last school year. There have been major successes in instruction, training, planning and implementation of several programs.
There have been increases in professional development, student participation, programs, sports and arts. Our parents have been more involved in the school this past year.
There has been a wealth of community base programs and support for many school programs. We thank every patron, every business and individuals for their outstanding assistance. What a good year!
What we must do better next year in 2008-09:
* All students must be in school everyday (better attendance).
* All students must improve behavior.
* Excellent teaching must be presented all day, in every class.
* Have more rigorous and challenging academics.
* Expand arts and athletics.
* Gain greater percentage of parental involvement.
* Continue to increase community support.
* Continue to have safe schools.
* Work to have more volunteers and mentors.
As we move forward, I thank the teachers, staff and administrators for a job well done. I look forward to great programs and progress as we endeavor to provide excellent education for all our students.
We’ll see you Aug. 11, when the teachers return and on Aug. 18 when all students will return to school.
Have a safe and fun-filled vacation.
Dr. Nathaniel Miller is the Marion School District 2 superintendent.
