Marion County School of Music is hosting a two-week culture exchange and symposium for the children attending summer camp 2008. The children are learning the Russian language, folk dances, music history, and they have created many arts and craft projects.
At the end of this two-week course they invite the public to a dinner theatre and Show, in which they will serve a homemade spaghetti dinner and dessert, and perform for their audience. The two guests teaching this extraordinary course are Barbara Suhrstedt, master pianist, of Boston, Mass., who has performed throughout the world and has visited Marion four times to perform at the Rosewood Manor, and teach master classes at the Marion County School of Music.
Natalia Voskerchiants, of St. Petersburg, Russia, a master teacher from the Stravinsky School of Music is also working with the Summer Campers on this project. Both ladies will perform several pieces as duets, during the dinner show.
“The children have enjoyed learning and making their Russian crafts,” Rose C. Massey, the director of the school, says. “We hope everyone will come to the dinner theatre and see what these children have learned in such a short period of time.”
The dinner theatre will be at the Church of the Advent on Main Street, at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 28.
