Florence School District Three Board of Trustees approved Superintendent Beth Wright’s recommendation to name Barbara Woodbury Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction during their special meeting on June 19.
Woodury previously served as principal of Lake City Elementary school.
Woodbury replaces Donna Godwin who has moved to Summerville to take care of her father who is ill.
Wright said Woodbury has 36 years of experience in the field of education and 29 of those years was spent in FCSD3.
Wright said Woodbury served as an assistant principal for four years and as a principal for five years.
According to FCSD3 website, Woordbury earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Framingham, Mass. and a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University.
Woodbury completed certification in elementary school administration and supervision from The Citadel and is a certified TAP (Teacher Advancement Program) teacher evaluator.
After the meeting, Wright said they will review the recent pool of applicants who applied for the Scranton Elementary School principal position before they advertise the principal vacancy at Lake City Elementary School.
Wright explained the need to fill the principal vacancy at Lake City Elementary so that the individual can begin meeting teachers and participating in professional development.
In other business, board members approved the certification of election results for Seat 5 and Gracie S. Hannah was installed in that seat.
On May 13 Hannah pushed incumbent Amos Majors out of office with 17 votes to Majors 11 votes.
On June 9, The Florence County Elections Commission denied Majors protest of individuals were not allowed to voted during the election.
Commission Chairman James Tanner said the protest was denied because Majors didn't present any witnesses or proof.
The next board of trustees meeting will be July 17 at7 p.m. at the District Office on Blanding Street.
