Religious groups agree to drop suit against USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Two groups that support Christian students and organizations at colleges say they will drop a lawsuit against the University of South Carolina over how it allocates student activity fees.

The Alliance Defense Fund Center for Academic Freedom and the Christian Legal Society say the university has agreed to work with them to adopt new rules on dividing the fees. The groups represented the university's Christian Legal Society chapter.

University spokesman Russ McKinney says the school will not pay out any money until the new guidelines are in place.

The university was sued in February, accused of not giving religious groups their share of activity fees that are given to other student organizations.
