A new homeless shelter is getting ready to open up in Myrtle Beach.
The new Street Reach Ministries is on Osceola Drive off of Mr. Joe White Avenue.
The new facility will more than double Street Reach’s capacity to house homeless people on the Grand Strand and triple its ability to offer programs such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Executive Director Libby Faulkner said there are beds for men and women, showers, a common room, a worship area, separate rooms for people who are rehabilitating from substance abuse problems, a clinic, and a commercial sized kitchen.
Faulkner said when people come to Street Reach they can now get a decent, nutritious meal.
“They come, they’re hungry, they’re tired, they’re dirty, they need clothing, and they need food first.” said Faulkner.
Volunteers said the vision for Street Reach is to be a place in the community which provides a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
Organizers said Street Reach is the only homeless shelter between Charleston and Wilmington.
They are still looking for contributions that include financial, goods and services, gas cards, volunteers and landscaping. They also need volunteers to answer the phones, serve meals, and teach classes.
