The South Carolina Farmer’s Festival is drawing near and event officials are aiming to showcase the agriculture heritage of this area.
Associate Director of the National Bean Market Museum of South Carolina, Sherri Moore said the two ways they are showcasing the agriculture by having the Farmer’s Market every Saturday and having the South Carolina Farmer’s Festival this weekend.
Lake City Mayor Lovith Anderson Jr. said the city evolved as an agriculture community and agriculture is a major part of the city’s heritage.
The S.C. Farmer’s Festival begins on June 20 with a concert in Town Square at 7 p.m. by the Blue Birds, a bluegrass gospel group followed by folk rock performances by Hercules Farm at 8 p.m.
Moore said the Farmer’s Market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through the fall and it cost $5 for a farmer to set up and sell.
An antique gun show will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and quilting demonstrations will be from 10 a.m. until noon.
The SC Farmer’s festival parade will begin at 10 a.m and South Carolina Department of Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers will be the parade marshal.
Pleasant View Gospel Choir will sing all day by the Pole Barn behind the museum and there will be a dance performance by Kelley’s Fine Arts at 10: 30 a.m.
There will be singing in the Town Square from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and an antique tractor show from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Town Square.
Habitat for Horses, sponsored by Luck Farms, will be in attendance from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and demonstrators and re-enactors will be behind the Bean Market at the Pole barn from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Charleston Brass will perform at noon followed by judging for the art show and baking contest at 1 p.m.
The Charleston Brass will perform again at 2 p.m. and the judging for the antique tractor contest will be at 3 p.m.
There will be a dramatic performance of Clara Barton at 3 p.m. and the festival ends at 4 p.m.
Moore said they are allowing only one church or non-profit organization to set up for free during the Farmer’s Market each Saturday.
