The State Law Enforcement Division has released more details about a McColl police officer accused of drug trafficking.
Jerry Keith Smith, 38, and his wife, 42-year-old Udora Beane Smith, both of 400A N. Church St., McColl, were arrested Friday, according to a SLED press release.
Jerry Smith is charged with misconduct in office and trafficking 100 grams or more but less than 200 grams of cocaine.
According to an attachment to Jerry Smith’s arrest warrant, he received a quantity of cocaine from undercover agent during a reverse sting in Lexington County and, after his arrest, said he’d intended to package the drugs with evidence tape and a case file to make it look legitimate.
Udora Smith is charged with possession of a schedule II narcotic without a prescription and two counts of possession of a schedule III narcotic without a prescription.
According to an attachment to Udora Smith’s arrest warrant, she had one Lortab, nine Lorcet and 11 methadone tablets in her possession at SLED headquarters and said her husband received them Thursday and gave them to her to keep for him.
Jerry Smith is on administrative leave without pay from the McColl Police Department pending the outcome of the investigation, Chief Tommy Langley said Monday.
SLED records show Udora Smith previously was convicted of one count of felony financial transaction card forgery in 2005, one count of misdemeanor financial transaction card fraud — for which she was arrested by McColl police — and first offense fraudulent check less than $500 in 2004.
