Man arrested in Pamplico fuel theft case

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Cades man was arrested Friday after deputies said he pumped 300 gallons of diesel fuel into his 18-wheeler, but only paid the convenience store $30 for it, Florence County Sheriff’s Capt. Julius Lee said.

Lenard Bryan Adams, 31, of 1112 Patty Road is charged with grand larceny of $5,000 or more and breaking into a motor vehicle, tanks or pumps where fuel is stored, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.

On June 3, the suspect pulled his 18-wheeler into a gas station near Pamplico and began pumping fuel, Lee said. The suspect told the store’s clerk that he had only gotten $30 in diesel fuel and that the pump must be malfunctioning.

The clerk later discovered the suspect took 300 gallons of fuel totaling more than $3,000, Lee said. The suspect was arrested after a deputy spotted a truck matching the description of the one involved in the theft.

Adams was released Friday from the jail in Effingham after posting bail.
