Thanks to all who sought public office, voted, helped

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The first round of the election season is over.

Primaries were held Tuesday and now there will be runoffs in some races but most of the attention will be on the general election in November.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made the effort to run for public office.

It takes a commitment of time and effort and money.

And even though indications were early Tuesday that turnout might be down because of various factors, we want to thank all those who came out to vote.

Unfortunately, our community, state and nation doesn’t have a very good record for voter turnout.

Some think all the interest in the presidential primaries has gone a long way to change that.

We certainly hope that is the case.

If there are runoffs, we certainly urge everyone to find a way to go back out to vote again, or if you didn’t get a chance to vote in the primary, you can vote in the runoff.

If you did vote in the primary, you can only vote in the party’s primary you voted in on Tuesday.

And we urge you, if you haven’t already, to register to vote so you can have a say in the general election Nov. 4.

The last day to register to vote in November is Oct. 4.

Don’t wait. Go ahead and do it now.

And we would be remiss if we didn’t thank all the poll workers and others involved in operating our election system.

Without them, the whole process couldn’t happen.

They are there to answer questions, take care of problems and, in some cases, take care of issues with candidates and their supporters.

So thanks to all who participated —the candidates, the voters and the election workers.
