Darlington County primary roundup

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Voting officials buzzed about a low voter turnout for Tuesday's primary elections in Darlington County.
The closest race was for Darlington County Council Seat 7 between David Stanton and Alex "Buz" Shaw. After the votes were tallied, Shaw won 235-231.
In the House District 62 rematch between Richard Hodges, Dottie Mack White and incumbent Robert Williams, Williams took the nomination easily. Williams took 1427 to White's 635 and Hodges' 469.
The most exciting race was the race for Darlington County Sheriff. Wayne Byrd took the most votes garnering 3477 votes. Tom Gainey was behind Byrd with 2706. Charles Woodle finished with 1407 votes.
Voting regualtions require in a three-man race that a candidate must gather 51% of the votes in order to be declared a winner; therefore, in two weeks, there will be a runoff for Darlington County Sheriff between Wayne Byrd and Tom Gainey.
